Quarterly Milk Production Inches Up

Milk production in the United States during the July - September quarter totaled 54.3 billion pounds, up 0.5 percent from the previous three-month period.
According to the USDA, the average number of milk cows during the quarter was 9.32 million head, 10,000 head less than the April - June quarter, and 66,000 head less than the same period last year.
During the month of September, California had the highest total production with about 3.27 billion pounds.
