Texas panhandle wildfires call for urgent livestock aid
USAgNet - 03/01/2024

The Texas Panhandle faces a severe crisis as wildfires, driven by dry and windy conditions, have consumed over a million acres of ranchland. This catastrophic event has put the livelihoods of many livestock owners at risk, prompting the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service to step forward with a solution. They have initiated the setup of Animal Supply Points across the affected region to collect essential donations, such as hay, feed, and fencing supplies, to aid the recovery efforts.

These donations are crucial for the survival and well-being of the livestock, ensuring that the animals have access to necessary resources as their owners work to rebuild. Monty Dozier, a program director at AgriLife Extension, emphasizes the importance of community support during these trying times, highlighting the spirit of generosity among Texans.

To facilitate this support, several supply points and contact coordinators have been established in Gray and Hemphill counties. Additionally, financial contributions can be made through designated funds and hotlines, ensuring that help reaches those in need swiftly.

As the Texas A&M Forest Service continues to battle the flames, AgriLife Extension is committed to providing ongoing educational resources and recovery information. This effort underlines the importance of community resilience and the collective action needed to overcome the challenges posed by the wildfires.
