Only Working Farmer in Congress Set to Retire
USAgNet - 02/09/2016

U.S. Rep. Stephen Fincher, R-Tenn., the only working farmer in Congress, last week announced he will not seek re-election.

Best known for his leadership on renewing the charter of the Export-Import Bank, the 43-year-old lawmaker's decision came as a surprise to many.

Several potential candidates, including former U.S. Attorney David Kustoff and Tennessee state Sen. Brian Kelsey, have announced they will run to fill Fincher's seat, which is considered safe for his party since the district is heavily Republican.

Fincher is the 22nd member to retire this cycle. Wisconsin Rep. Reid Ribble announced his retirement last week, setting off a crowded race to replace him.
