Dry Week Allows Missouri Harvest to Advance

Another week of below average precipitation has allowed harvesting to advance. There were 6.1 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending Sunday. Temperatures averaged 62.2 degrees, 7.4 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 0.60 inches statewide, 0.19 inches below normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 5 percent very short, 14 percent short, 77 percent adequate, and 4 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 3 percent very short, 12 percent short, 83 percent adequate, and 2 percent surplus.

Corn harvested for grain was 87 percent complete, compared to 93 percent last year and 83 percent for the 5-year average.

Soybeans dropping leaves progressed to 97 percent. Soybean harvest was 57 percent complete, compared to 53 percent for the 5-year average. Soybean condition was rated 2 percent very poor, 4 percent poor, 20 percent fair, 53 percent good, and 21 percent excellent.

Cotton harvest was 74 percent complete, 24 percentage points ahead of the 5-year average.

Sorghum harvest was 76 percent complete.

Winter wheat planted reached 48 percent, compared to 50 percent for the 5-year average. Winter wheat emerged reached 27 percent.

Pasture condition was rated 2 percent poor, 31 percent fair, 58 percent good, and 9 percent excellent.
