Meinert Named MU College of Business Dean

Long-time administrator and faculty member Dr. David Meinert will become the new dean and David D. Glass Distinguished Leadership Chair of Missouri State University's College of Business on Jan. 1, 2019. Meinert has been interim dean since Jan. 1, 2018.

Meinert's appointment will be confirmed by the Board of Governors at its Dec. 13 meeting.

"I believe David has the right personality and many good ideas that will help build our future in the College of Business," said Provost Frank Einhellig. "He has a history of good personal interactions, a firm understanding of budgetary challenges, and an unquestioned work ethic."

Meinert was associate dean of the college from 2008-17. He also served as director of the Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) program since 2008 and director of the Executive Master of Health Administration program since 2012.

Meinert started working at Missouri State in 1990 as assistant professor of computer information systems. He has a doctorate in management information systems from the University of Mississippi and an MBA and bachelor's degree from Northern Michigan University.

"It is an honor to have the opportunity to lead one of the largest, and arguably best, business programs in the Midwest," said Meinert. "I look forward to continuing to work with faculty, staff, students, alumni and the business community to advance and build on the college's tradition of excellence."

Appointment follows national search The appointment follows an extensive national search process that resulted in 26 applicants.

Three candidates were brought to campus for in-person interviews and two were considered as finalists.

"The search committee was pleased with the quality of the candidates that we interviewed," said Dr. Victor Matthews, dean of the College of Humanities and Public Affairs and chair of the search committee. "Ultimately, two stood out as particularly strong and our evaluation centered on dealing with both immediate and long term needs of the college."
