Concerns rise over Missouri river flooding near Bismarck
Missouri Ag Connection - 03/01/2024

Senator John Hoeven urged the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to address Missouri River flooding caused by ice jams near Bismarck-Mandan. He emphasized the need for immediate action to tackle rising water levels.

John Remus, Corps' Missouri River Basin Water Management Division Chief, informed Hoeven that water levels are currently peaking, and the Corps is monitoring the situation closely. He also stated that they've reduced water releases from Garrison Dam to mitigate flooding, with further reductions planned for the following day.

"I stressed the urgency of addressing this situation and the need for the Corps to take immediate steps," said Hoeven. "They've committed to lowering dam releases, and we'll continue working with them to ensure transparency and community safety. We also appreciate the efforts of local and state officials in these flood prevention efforts."
