'Sensory Garden Symposium' in Springfield March 23

Learn more about the plans for Springfield Botanical Garden's next step for bringing nature, gardens and people together at the "Sensory Garden Symposium" planned for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 23 at the Botanical Center, 2400 S. Scenic Ave., Springfield.

There is a registration fee of $18 to cover the cost of lunch and materials. Individuals can register online at Parkboard.org under "activities" number "12774" or call: 417-891-1515 ext # 2.

"The symposium is designed especially for educators, accessibility advocates, inclusion specialists and anyone interested in the planned sensory garden for the five senses," said Katie Keith, director of the Springfield Botanical Center.

Symposium topics and speakers include "Memory Care with Alzheimer patients Using Plants" by Kelly McGowan, horticulture educator with University of Missouri Extension.

The program "Adaptive Gardening and Disability Sensitivity" will be presented by Amanda Primm, access and technology specialist, Southwest Council for Independent Living.

"Differentiated Learning Styles in the Garden," will be presented by Becky Day, interpretive horticulturist at the Botanical Center.

Keith will present "Envisioning our Sensory Garden in Springfield."

The program is made possible through a cooperative partnership between Friends of the Garden, Springfield Botanical Gardens, Springfield-Greene County Park Board, and University of Missouri Extension - Greene County.
