Livestock and Forage Conference March 26 in Clever

Farmers and ranchers in southwest Missouri are invited to attend the Christian County Livestock and Forage Conference from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. March 26fo at the Clever High School commons area, located on east state Hwy 14 in Clever.

Cost of the program is $5 per person. It is important that attendees pre-register with the Christian County Extension Center before March 22 in order to receive a meal. Call 417-581-3558 for information or send payment to Christian County Extension Center, 105 N. Second St, Ozark.

"This long-running conference will continue to equip livestock producers to better manage their operations and provide quality products for consumers," according to Tim Schnakenberg, University of Missouri Extension regional agronomy specialist based in Galena.

The program will focus this year on three main topics.

Bob Schultheis, MU Extension natural resources engineering specialist, will discuss the use of unmanned aerial systems (drones) for Ozarks agriculture.

Jim Spencer, Jr, MU Extension ag business specialist, will provide an overview of sound pasture rental arrangements.

Schnakenberg will lead a discussion on the good, bad and the ugly of Johnsongrass on farms.

There will also be farm program updates from the local farm agencies and 4-H and FFA reports.

A beef brisket meal will be provided courtesy of Bank of Billings, Southern Bank, Springfield Livestock Marketing Center, Christian County Soil and Water Conservation District, FCS Financial, Old Missouri Bank, Nixa Hardware and Seed, and Phillips Veterinary Services.
