Registration Open for MU Research Center Grazing School

The 2018 Regional Grazing School at Mt. Vernon is set for May 8, 9 and 10. The daylong sessions will be held at University of Missouri's Southwest Research Center located on Hwy. H south of Mt. Vernon.

Applications are being accepted until May 1 or when the enrollment reaches 45.

School sessions cover topics like soil basics and fertility, plant growth and species, pasture layout, fencing and water systems, nutritional requirements of livestock and how to match livestock to forages.

There will be classroom sessions, field exercises and tours to farms that show a variety of grazing setups.

Instructors are University of Missouri Extension faculty and Natural Resource Conservation Service personnel.

This basic grazing school dates back to 1990. A lot has changed and the experienced instructors will bring participants up-to-date with current recommendations. The school is required for certain cost-share programs provided by the NRCS .

Registration is underway at the MU Extension center located in the Lawrence County Courthouse in Mt. Vernon. The cost is $140 per person or $225 for couples. This fee covers handout material, three lunches and refreshments.
