Lost Valley Hatchery to Host Free Kids Fishing Day
Missouri Ag Connection - 04/23/2019

Families who wish to introduce young people to fishing will have a special opportunity when the Missouri Department of Conservation's (MDC) Lost Valley Fish Hatchery hosts the 18th annual Kid's Fishing Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 27. MDC staff and volunteers will be on hand to teach and assist anglers at the free event.

Youngsters age 15 and under are welcome to participate. Registration for participants starts at 9 a.m. at the hatchery, 28232 Hatchery Way, Warsaw. Fishing will begin at 10 a.m. in the youth fishing pond in front of the hatchery. MDC provides fishing poles and tackle for participants, or youngsters may bring their own, but only one per participant.

The young anglers will be fishing in a pond stocked with channel catfish and hybrid sunfish. This pond is open year round for youth fishing, but Kid's Fishing Day adds special activities including drawings for fishing tackle, free lunch, and conservation displays. Only bait not carried in water is allowed. The pond is accessible for those with mobility challenges.

Participants may keep two fish. However, they will need to bring a bucket or bag to take them home. No fish cleaning station is available at the pond.

Kid's Fishing Day is a great way to help youngsters and families connect with nature. For more information, call 660-438-4465.
