Gov. Parson Declares a Drought Alert

Gov. Mike Parson has declared a Drought Alert in the state of Missouri, acknowledging the current drought conditions and their potential impact on agriculture.

The Missouri Department of Agriculture has a representative on the Drought Assessment Committee, which will assess the conditions further and provide recommendations to Gov. Parson by this Friday.

These recommendations may include measures such as a hay lottery program, opening public waters for livestock, and easing hay hauling restrictions, among others.

As per the U.S. Drought Monitor, around 60 counties in Missouri are currently experiencing moderate to extreme drought conditions, including several in our listening area.
