Missouri Insurance Director in DC with Delegation
Missouri Ag Connection - 05/25/2018

Director Chlora Lindley-Myers of the Missouri Department of Insurance joined more than 31 members of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) to discuss insurance issues with members of Congress. Topics raised included health insurance market stabilization, National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) reauthorization, federal financial regulatory reform and billing issues with air ambulance carriers.

"It's important that we meet with our congressional colleagues to represent Missouri consumers and insurance industry interests, as much of what is drafted at the Federal level impacts us in Missouri," said Director Lindley-Myers. "It is my job to protect our consumers and to maintain a strong and fair insurance market in our state. I rely on the support of members of Congress to help me accomplish that."

Chief state insurance regulators and senior staff from across the country gathered in Washington this week for the 2018 All Commissioner DC Fly-In. NAIC members spent two days meeting with their congressional representatives and discussing the impact of federal policies in the states and briefing lawmakers on regulatory developments in insurance.

Before meeting their congressional delegations, the regulators met U.S. Department of Labor Secretary Alexander Acosta, U.S. Congressman Dennis Heck (D, WA-17), Financial Stability Oversight Council (FSOC) Independent Insurance Expert Thomas Workman and Counselor to the U.S. Department of the Treasury Secretary Craig S. Phillips. Political analyst Charlie Cook also gave a presentation.

DIFP is responsible for consumer protection through the regulation of financial industries and professionals. The department's seven divisions work to enforce state regulations both efficiently and effectively while encouraging a competitive environment for industries and professions to ensure consumers have access to quality products.
