Despite Rain, Missouri Farmers Get Wheat Crop Harvested

Farmers made good progress harvesting wheat and haying last week despite varying amounts of rainfall across the State. There were 5.7 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending Sunday. Temperatures averaged 81.1 degrees, 5.9 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 1.06 inches statewide, 0.01 inches below normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 13 percent very short, 38 percent short, 46 percent adequate, and 3 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 7 percent very short, 32 percent short, 60 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus.

Corn silking reached 20 percent, 16 percentage points ahead of last year and 8 percentage points ahead of the 5-year average. Corn condition was rated 2 percent very poor, 7 percent poor, 28 percent fair, 53 percent good, and 10 percent excellent.

Soybean planting progressed to 96 percent complete, compared to 59 percent last year and 87 percent for the 5-year average. Soybeans emerged progressed to 88 percent complete, 41 percentage points ahead of last year and 10 percentage points ahead of the 5-year average. Soybeans blooming reached 6 percent. Soybean condition was rated 2 percent very poor, 7 percent poor, 34 percent fair, 52 percent good, and 5 percent excellent.

Cotton squaring was 57 percent complete, compared to 33 percent for the 5-year average.

Winter wheat harvested progressed to 82 percent complete.

Pasture condition was rated 1 percent very poor, 9 percent poor, 45 percent fair, 44 percent good, and 3 percent excellent.
