MCA Hosts Cattlemen's College During Convention
Missouri Ag Connection - 01/22/2018

Missouri cattle producers will attend a Cattlemen's College, sponsored by Zoetis, during the 50th Annual Missouri Cattle Industry Convention and Trade Show. The Cattlemen's College includes eight sessions focusing on cattle markets, productions technologies, managing risks and more.

Kent Bacus, director of international trade and market access for the National Cattlemen's Beef Association, will talk about the value of international trade to Missouri cattle producers. He will describe the situation in China and what it could mean in 2018.

"China is the shining light," said Bacus. "It's still going to take us a while to develop this market. China has a population of nearly 1.4 billion and a growing middle class.

Another Cattlemen's College tract will focus finding and keeping reliable labor. Joe Horner, University of Missouri Extension, will discuss one of the biggest challenges facing many Missouri farm families.

"As farms grow in size, learning to recruit, manage and retain high-quality employees becomes even more critical," said Horner.

The annual convention was hosted by MCA; Missouri's Cattlemen Foundation; Missouri CattleWomen; Missouri Beef Industry Council; and the Missouri Junior Cattlemen's Association.

MCA was initiated in 1911 and is dedicated to improving viability of Missouri's beef industry. MCA is celebrating its 107th year serving as the voice of Missouri's beef producers. MCA is a not-for-profit, grassroots, member-driven organization focused on advancing Missouri's beef industry.
