Missouri Harvest Progresses Under Dry Weather

Dry weather allowed crop harvesting to advance. There were 5.9 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending Sunday. Temperatures averaged 75.6 degrees, 12.3 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 0.21 inches statewide, 0.94 inches below normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 2 percent very short, 8 percent short, 80 percent adequate, and 10 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 2 percent very short, 7 percent short, 86 percent adequate, and 5 percent surplus.

Corn mature reached 93 percent, 14 percentage points ahead of last year and 9 percentage points ahead of the 5-year average. Corn harvested for grain reached 38 percent, compared to 41 percent last year and 44 percent for the 5-year average. Corn condition was rated 2 percent very poor, 4 percent poor, 18 percent fair, 55 percent good, and 21 percent excellent.

Soybeans turning color reached 76 percent, compared to 67 percent for the 5year average. Soybeans dropping leaves progressed to 42 percent. Soybeans harvested reached 5 percent, compared to 3 percent for the 5-year average. Soybean condition was rated 2 percent very poor, 3 percent poor, 19 percent fair, 57 percent good, and 19 percent excellent.

Cotton bolls opening reached 68 percent, compared to 63 percent for the 5-year average. Cotton harvested reached 5 percent, 1 percentage point ahead of the 5-year average.

Rice harvested reached 72 percent complete.

Sorghum harvest was 19 percent complete.

Pasture condition was rated 3 percent poor, 29 percent fair, 57 percent good, and 11 percent excellent.
